Providing Peace of Mind for the Lovingood's

When four-year-old Rhet Lovingood was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2024, his family’s world changed in an instant. As Caitlin, Rhet’s mom, faced anger and heartbreak over his diagnosis, she was inspired by her son’s bravery and courage as he began his journey to recovery.

Thankfully, after a year and a half of treatment, Rhet went into remission, but still receives chemotherapy and treatment. With the Lovingood’s hometown two and a half hours away in North Carolina, traveling to and from Atlanta quickly became burdensome. When they learned they could stay at Ronald McDonald House Atlanta, they found not only relief from traveling, but also a place where Rhet finds joy during hard days.

Rhet and Caitlin were able to stay at the new North Druid Hills House for the first time in January and were thrilled to see the space after watching it be built during their time at Arthur M. Blank Hospital. The Lovingood’s found the House’s close proximity to the hospital to provide peace of mind for Caitlin and comfort to Rhet knowing he has more time to relax and play in between appointments. Rhet’s favorite part of the new House is the five-story playscape – especially the Delta plane on the fifth floor.

Caitlin said she cherishes the community she has built during their stays the most. She spoke to how important it is for not only Rhet to be around children going through similar circumstances, but also for her to be around other parents experiencing similar emotions as her.

Rhet was recently admitted into the hospital for two weeks, and his father and siblings were able to come visit on the weekends because of the Ronald McDonald House. “Staying at the Ronald McDonald House really brought his mood up. Knowing after hard appointments, he can stay here,” said Caitlin.

“This journey would be much harder for him without Ronald McDonald House Atlanta, and the love they have shared to our whole family.”
